Welcome to the Farmer's Market Tree Trail hosted by the Virginia Beach Master Gardener Tree Stewards. This is a multi-phase project to increase public awareness of trees – their value to the community and ecosystem, their selection, planting and care, and how they are affected by common environmental factors we find in an urban environment. Our initial selection of trees looks at those mature species planted at the perimeter of the market, and represent a variety
of those that might be found at or selected for your home or property. The walking map above identifies their locations, with the arrow indicating the location of a placard that has the common and scientific name. For those that want to dive deeper, a QR code on the placard will take you to our website to access extensive tree information from Virginia Tech and North Carolina State websites. The map also shows where additional trees of the same species are planted, allowing you to compare the same tree growing under different environmental conditions. This tour is normally self-guided, with a tour narrative available below or by following the QR code on the placard. During some special event Saturdays at the market we will host guided tours, the details of which are noted above. You may also request a separate guided tour through our Speakers Bureau on this website. Thank you for joining us, and we welcome your questions and feedback.
