Community Outreach
The mission of master gardeners is to bring research-based horticulture information to our communities. In Virginia Beach, we accomplish this mission by connecting with residents in as many places as we can. In addition to the programs below, VBMGs plan and host the Gardening Talks series, staff Ask a Master Gardener clinics and Help Desk, teach Rain Barrel workshops, and participate in several community events with other organizations.
Horticulture Therapy Workshops
Virginia Beach Master Gardeners visit Nursing Homes and Rehab Centers in the City of Virginia Beach to share educational and hands-on experiences in horticulture with the patients. Patients will be given the opportunity to continue to learn, grow and participate in activities related to nature, horticulture and the world around us. Some of the programs planned for the future include, but are not limited to, learning how to force bulbs, creating a dish garden, creating art and holiday decor from natural materials.
