Basil - Purple Dark Opal
Description: Glossy deep purple leaves striking enough to be ornamental! Delicious in vinegars or as a garnish for your favorite meals. Strong flavor well-suited to cooking. Beautiful pale purple flowers with deep purple leaves and stems—ideal for adding to bouquets. An 18-24 in. bushy plant.
Harvesting: Harvesting: Harvest throughout the season by cutting the tops off the plants, aggressively. Do not let the plants flower. If blossoms occur, they are edible.
Use: The dark color leaches into the infusing vinegar, leaving it a beautiful shade of burgundy. Make a purple pesto or use the leaves as a garnish for desserts, salads, pizza and pastas. Opal basil can replace green varieties in caprese salads and most other recipes calling for standard sweet basil.
