Spring is the perfect season to begin thinking about your lawn. If I your grass browns out in the winter and is green in the summer, you have a warm season turf grass (Bermuda, St. Augustine, Centipede are examples), and now is the time to get your lawn ready for summer. Adam Nichols, Research Manager, Turfgrass and Weed Science will focus on how to establish and maintain your lawn.

John Wilson, owner of John Capstone Creations in Virginia Beach will discuss the importance of urban agriculture, how to stretch the period of time you can harvest vegetables and ways to improve your garden fertility. Nonchemical and Organic Methods to Control Pests and Weeds

Have you experienced the frustration of growing beautiful flowers or fabulous vegetables only to have pests ruin your hard work? You don’t want to use chemicals on your plants, so what can you do? On April 19th at 7PM the Virginia Beach Master Gardeners will be offering a program on Nonchemical and Organic Methods of Pest and Weed Control. Dave Lawson, Branch Manager of Landscape Supply of Virginia will discuss alternatives to synthetic pesticides including nonchemical and organic controls. He will discuss what products are available and how these products work.

Andrea’s advice will help you choose reliable online sources for information.

Dr. Natalie Foret, PT, DPT, MTC, CMTPT
Do you have aches and pains that make doing the gardening you love difficult or impossible? Join Dr. Natalie Foret for an educational seminar about gardening ergonomics. Dr. Foret will discuss proper form and proper use of body mechanics to protect your back, knees, hips and shoulders. In addition, she will review considerations on how to modify your movements to improve ease with gardening and techniques for those who already have an issue or pain. Lastly, Dr. Foret will make exercise recommendations for building a stronger core, and stretches to improve mobility.

Sex and the Single Flower
