Work with Youth
4-H Junior Master Gardener Camp
Two one-week day camps are conducted each summer from 9 a.m. to noon. The goal of camp is to encourage an interest in gardening and in environmental stewardship. The camp is offered to teenagers and registration is handled through the City of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation program. |
Farm Days
Coordinated by the Virginia Dare Soil and Water Conservation District, this two-day event at Hunt Club Farms allows students to discover the wonders of agriculture. Master Gardeners do a horticulture station in the rotation.

Harvest Fair
As part of the Farmer’s Market fall celebration of agriculture, Master Gardener volunteers educate children at a horticulture station at the event in October.
City Arbor Day Celebration
Each year the City Arborist plans an Arbor Day Celebration and tree planting ceremony. Tree Stewards often volunteer to assist with planning and helping with the ceremony.

Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course
MAHSC is a nationally-recognized annual training for professionals in the Green Industries, sponsored by the Virginia Horticultural Foundation. Every winter it's an innovative program for all levels of horticultural staff to gain professional certifications or maintain them by earning many CEUs. Master Gardener volunteers assist the conference by moderating classes. For more information, click here.

Virginia Flower & Garden Expo
Produced by the Virginia Horticultural Foundation and Pilot Targeted Media, the Expo promotes horticultural education for everyone from professionals to the weekend enthusiast. Master Gardener volunteers can serve in several capacities at this event. The Virginia Beach Master Gardener Association, Virginia Cooperative Extension and children’s program booths are staffed by Master Gardeners. Some Master Gardeners also volunteer as speakers at the Garden Stage. For more information, click here.
