The annual Fall Gardening Festival is held one Saturday in September on the grounds of the Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC) on Diamond Springs Road in Virginia Beach. The Festival began as an educational opportunity for the Hampton Roads Community, and each year there is a different theme related to gardening. The events of the day include speakers who provide information related to the theme, gardening demonstrations, tours of the gardens and arboretum at AREC, representation from about 20 gardening societies and groups including the Plant Doctor, and educational opportunities for children. In addition, there is a plant sale, a bake sale, an auction, and food trucks provide luncheon options.
The Fall Festival hours are 10:00 am-3:00 pm. There is no cost to attend, parking is plentiful and free, and it is a family and dog-friendly event. This year’s Festival is scheduled for September 23, 2017. Check back for updates on speakers and demonstrations!
